Intensive Illustrator Workshop with Matt Faulkner

If you're like most people, your New Year's resolution has something to do with getting back in shape. And like most people, you probably need a little nudge. Join SCBWI-MI for our upcoming Picture Book Illustration Workshop with Matt Faulkner on Saturday, February 6, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Orion Township Library in Lake Orion, MI. Open to intermediate to advanced illustrators, this workshop will focus on exercising creativity, toning up your editing expertise, and stretching your self-promotion options. Work with Matt, your own personal trainer, to strengthen your skills and add power to your illustrations.
Matt Faulkner is the illustrator of many acclaimed picture books and currently teaches illustration at the Art Academy University in San Francisco. The cost of the workshop is $80, which includes lunch. Session prerequisite: bring your best 8 illustration pieces (not originals). Topics covered include:
- Group critiquing --what art directors look for--
- Sketching the power scenes in a story (bring paper and pencils)
- The business of the business
- Understanding story structure
- Bringing an objective eye to your work

It’s that time of year we SCBWI-MI’ers get to hang out with other dy-no-mite people who love kid’s books as much as we do. Far out! So pull out the tie-dyed t-shirts and love beads, plug in the lava lamp, and celebrate Networks Weekend 60's style! Be there or be square!
